The city is moving forward with a $15 minimum wage by 2019, saying the state’s plan to adopt a $15 minimum wage by 2022 was too little, too late for residents who are facing escalating living costs in the Bay Area.

Milpitas City Council voted unanimously on Feb. 21 to adopt an ordinance, which had its 1st reading early last four weeks that would accelerate the minimum wage to $15 by Jul 1, 2019 with the 1st bump coming Jul 1 of this year. On Fri Jan 1 2016, state law required the minimum wage to be increased to $10, the city’s Jul 1 increase will make it $11 in Milpitas.
